Jazz arrived in France with the American soldiers of the First World War and since then France has been a second home for the American jazzmen. We will analyze the extraordinary influence of the American Jazz on the French Society from dance to songs, from classical music to graphic arts, painting and literature. French Jazz has become an original strand and  is still popular in the country.

De l’introduction du jazz avec le corps expéditionnaire américain en 1917, au free jazz des années 70-80, nous analyserons l’extraordinaire influence du jazz sur la société française, de la danse à la chanson, de la musique classique aux arts graphiques, à la peinture et à la littérature. En même temps que la France devenait une seconde patrie pour les musiciens de jazz américains, un jazz français s’est créé qui a su s’engager sur des voies originales.

Aujourd’hui encore le jazz reste une musique très écoutée dans le pays.
