Art Lecture by Dr. John Elderfield Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York

The Alliance Française of Cincinnati, in partnership with the Cincinnati Art Museum, is pleased to announce an art lecture by Dr. John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  Dr. Elderfield is a world renowned expert on Matisse, which he will be discussing with us during his lecture at the Art Museum on Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Dr. Elderfield has been with the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1975 when he began his career there as Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture.  According to Glenn D. Lowry, Director of the Museum, Dr. Elderfield is “internationally known for the groundbreaking scholarship he brought to numerous exhibitions and publications at MoMA.  He is deeply respected throughout the art world for his curatorial dedication, collegiality, and expertise.”

It is with great honor that the Alliance Française presents this art lecture to our members.  He will be sharing the lessons that Matisse’s art continues to teach us today, almost a century after he first became known to the public.

We hope you will plan to join us for this unique opportunity.
