The Consul General de France hands her Academic Palms to Jane Goepper

Mr. Graham PAUL assumed the position of Consul General of France in Chicago on June 4th, 2010. He will be making his first visit to Cincinnati on Wednesday October 13th.

The French and francophile community is invited to meet our French dignitary from Chicago during an Aperitif hosted in partnership with the French American Business Alliance (FABA) and the Cincinnati-Nancy Sister City Association at La Petite France.

The event is scheduled from 5:30 PM to 7:30 .

It is a free event, each attendee is responsible for its own drinks and /or food.

Mr. Graham PAUL assumed the position of Consul General of France in Chicago on June 4th, 2010. Prior to the present appointment, Mr. PAUL was Deputy Head of the French Embassy in Berlin (2007-2010) and Consul General in Munich (2006-2007).  Mr. PAUL joined the Foreign Service in 1984. He was first posted in Cameroon as Second Secretary at the French Embassy in Yaoundé (1984-1987), before returning to Paris to work on German Affairs (1987-1989). He served two years in East-Berlin at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989-1990), and was subsequently Deputy Head of the French Consulate General in Hamburg (1991-1994).  He went on to serve as counsellor with the Delegation of France to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna (1997-1998). He was then appointed Deputy Director for Strategic Affairs in Paris at the Quai d’Orsay (1998-2001), before spending three years as political Counsellor in Tokyo (2001-2004).

At this occasion, the Consul will hand her Palmes Académiques to Jane Goepper.

Jane Black Goepper was named Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes Académiques in July 1996 based on her 42 years of teaching French and teaching young people to become teachers or French as well as her work with the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) where she served as Editor of the Newletter starting in January 1984. Since her retirement in 1997, she has continued to encourage young people to study and learn to teach French and has continued her editorship of the AATF National Bulletin along with her participation on the AATF Executive Council. In addition, she has been active in the Cincinnati-Nancy Sister City Association since its beginning and has planned many exchanges between schools in the Greater Cincinnati Area with schools in Nancy. She has been a long-time member of the Alliance Française of Cincinnati and has served as an officer and a Board member in that non-profit in the past. More recently she has planned joint meetings of the Alliance Française and the Cincinnati-Nancy group for lectures on Nancy and its culture. She is a tireless promoter of France and all things French.
