Cinema Outing
Alliance Française is pleased to announce that we will partner with Cincinnati World Cinema/Garfield Theater for a viewing of two films.
Le Havre (2011, Aki Kaurismaki, 93 min.) In French with English sub-titles
Finnish Director Aki Kaurismaki tells a heartwarming story about how a community of everyday working people, led by shoe shiner Marcel Marx (veteran French actor André Wilms), helps a young African boy, an escapee from a shipping container in La Havre port, reunite with his mother. Kaurismaki’s soulful tale won the International Film Critics Awards at the Cannes Festival for best film in 2011.
Showings at Garfield Theater: Thursday, 7 April 7:00 pm Saturday, 9 April 3:30 pm
France (2021, Bruno Dumont, 101 min.) In French with English sub-titles
Director Bruno Dumont satirizes news media through the career of popular, but self-absorbed, television anchor, France de Meurs (Léa Seydoux). The story shifts from satire to personal metamorphosis after a traffic accident causes her to reexamine her life.
Showings at Garfield Theater: Friday, 8 April 7:00 pm Saturday, 9 April 7:00 pm
Both films are followed by 20-minute discussion sessions.
Tickets are available on-line or at the door.
